After launching its first 5G phone last year, Nokia once more finds itself in familiar low-cost territory with the Nokia X20. It also comes with a bundled stylus and the tablet can be used in DeX mode, a desktop-like user interface that transforms the Tab S7 Plus into a makeshift laptop. From Huawei to Acer, many Android alternatives aren’t much more than characterless iPad copycats, and they’ve failed to make even the smallest dent on Apple’s sky-high sales so far. The Huawei MatePad Pro, for instance, while technically capable with an impressive specs list, doesn’t run the fully supported version of Android, and thus lacks Google applications such as YouTube, Drive, Gmail and others. The phone’s contrast of 1,241:1 isn’t bad, either. Compare these prices with the iPad Pro (2020), and Samsung finds itself in a remarkably strong position. This has an integrated kickstand and a smooth hinge that allows you to angle the tablet up to almost 180-degrees plus a handy slot to neatly store the S Pen stylus. There is, however, one quite visible difference between this model and the Tab S6. Expert Reviews™ is a registered trade mark. What have we got in terms of design, then? There’s around a £100 price gap between the two. There’s no wall charger in the box, but Nokia does include a USB-C charging cable as well as a compostable case that looks a bit like a terrazzo kitchen tile. The S7 Plus has a 12.4in display and the regular S7 has an 11in screen. DeX mode automatically activates when you connect the keyboard cover, or it can be manually enabled by pulling down the notification drawer and tapping the DeX icon. Things might be looking up for Android, however, with the arrival of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Plus. The keyboard cover is nice (if you buy one), the tablet itself is lovely, DeX mode works well and the stylus is included in the box at no extra cost. The Nokia X20’s screen is limited to just 60Hz, which is a bit of a shame if you were hoping for high-refresh scrolling and gaming. Sure, with it being Android you’re slightly more restricted with the type of apps you can run but whatever you do decide to throw at it, the Tab S7 Plus will just about shrug anything off without breaking a sweat. Both tablets come with 13MP and 5MP (wide-angle) cameras and an 8MP selfie snapper, which work well in a pinch, and they both support Wi-Fi 6 as well as the aforementioned 5G capability. The service isn’t live just yet, so I haven’t been able to test it out for the purposes of this review but so long as you have an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription (£11/mth), then as long as you have a strong enough internet connection, you’ll be able to stream and play over 100 Xbox games straight to the tablet. How did I get on with the Nokia X20’s suite of cameras in my tests? In testing, I found that the most colour accurate of the two (compared with sRGB) was the “Natural” mode with a measured average Delta E of 2 (the lower the better). And it performed exceptionally well in our tests. The lack of a high-refresh 120Hz display isn’t much of a problem here, since there’s a good chance it would struggle to achieve high frame rates in most games anyway. Updated: April 21, 2021 | by Tal Ditye, PhD. Considering the calibre of phone you can currently buy for a lot less money, the Nokia X20 fails to stand out in any meaningful way. Inside, the Nokia X20 is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 processor, clocked at 2GHz. All rights reserved. The Nokia X20 comes pre-installed with a stock version of Android 11, with three years of monthly security updates and a three-year extended warranty. Unlike many other agencies, Expert AuPair doesn’t charge an application or match fee (although it should be noted that you are primarily in charge of searching their database for potential au pair matches). In a first for Samsung, both tablets use a 120Hz, HDR10+ “Dynamic AMOLED” panel, with the regular Tab S7 having a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600. Pair all that with the fastest Qualcomm processor to date, a slick 120Hz screen and the potential for 5G connectivity, and the Tab S7 Plus is a great tablet for everything from working on Word documents to watching Netflix. Pressure and tilt sensitivity work well, and I can only imagine this would be a useful tool for the more artistically inclined. The first part comprises a cover that magnetically snaps to the back of the tablet. This brings the program fees to about $7,800, which includes the standard background check, psychometric screening, visa application, airfare, childcare training, and local support. After over 10 years reviewing crib mattresses, we have a confession to make: there is no perfect crib mattress! If you’re looking for a pair of “walking shoes,” however, you’re really looking for shoes that will be comfortable for long stretches of walking. Expert Reviews™ is a registered trade mark. Xiaomi’s low-cost Redmi Note 9T is currently our value 5G phone of choice and, if you bought one of these, you’ll save £120 (£179) over the Nokia. This lasted 11hrs 5mins in our standardised video rundown test, which is a 36% decrease on the Tab S6’s (15hrs 6mins) but the battery should last a full work day without needing to be charged. The Nokia X20 has a quad-camera arrangement, which consists of a primary 64MP unit (captures 16MP images by default), a 5MP ultrawide and dual 2MP depth and macro sensors. Launching alongside the Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Buds Live, Samsung’s latest high-end Android tablet is quite impressive and even manages to beat Apple off the starting line when it comes to 5G connectivity. Lasting a total of 17hrs 44mins in our video rundown test, there’s not much that separates the Nokia from its rivals, but you should be able to squeeze out at least a day’s worth of use on a single charge, if not a little more. If your buying budget is tight and you’ve got your sights set on 5G, then the cheaper Xiaomi Redmi Note 9T remains our top 5G value pick for the time being. On another damp note, the Nokia X20’s screen is a bit inconsistent when it comes to colour accuracy. Considering my faithful MacBook Pro hasn’t failed me yet, I can’t imagine the Tab S7 Plus will cause much frustration in the processing department. Its modest list of specifications includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480, a choice of 6GB or 8GB of RAM, 128GB of expandable storage and a 6.67in 60Hz FHD+ display. Protect your iPad with these sleek and sturdy cases. If you’re away from a wall socket for a longer stretch of time, you can squeeze out an extra 22% of juice if you dial the screen refresh rate down to 60Hz. The absolute minimum you can spend on one of Samsung’s newest tablets is £619, which nets you the WiFi-only 11in Tab S7. The Tab S7 Plus can be picked up in a choice of three colours: “Mystic Bronze”, “Mystic Black” and “Mystic Silver”. Both models come with 128GB of internal storage, with the option to expand this further if you have a spare microSD card. In the Geekbench 5 CPU benchmark, the Tab S7 Plus achieved a single-core result of 965, and a multi-core score of 2814, which is twice as fast in multi-core processing than my current work laptop, a 2016 MacBook Pro with a 3.1GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 7267U. In this mode, the Tab S7 Plus covered 93.5% of the sRGB colour space, with a total volume of 94.5%, and brightness peaked at 367cd/m². As for the rest of the internals, the Galaxy Tab S7 Plus comes with 8GB of RAM and a beefier 10,090mAh battery. Elsewhere, the Tab S7 Plus has a number of other advantages against the iPad. The Nokia X20’s remaining physical attributes are all quite sensible, though. A dedicated Google Assistant key is located on the phone’s left edge, as well as a SIM card tray with extra space for either a second SIM or a microSD card. Because of the size differences, the screen resolution differs slightly between the 11in and 12.4in Tab S7 models. Maybe you’ve dreamed of la bella vita italiana, for years, or maybe you’re open to going anywhere new and exciting.Because each country has different requirements for Au pairs, review the standards of pay, typical work hours, and normal qualifications before making your final choice. The keyboard part simply attaches to the magnetic three-pin connector on the tablet’s bottom edge, includes a touchpad and doubles up as a protective cover for the screen. The 5G LTE variant costs £999. The Wi-Fi-only version of the Tab S7 Plus costs £799 and comes with 128GB of storage, which can be expanded via microSD up to a further 1TB. Picking a country to work as an au pair abroad can be tricky. When it comes to RAM, I was sent the top-end 8GB Nokia X20 for review, but there’s also a slightly cheaper 6GB variant in shops. The Nokia X20 is a solid mid-range handset, but there’s better value to be found elsewhere. Powering the Tab S7 Plus is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus, which is strange considering Samsung could have used its own Exynos 990 chipset and saved a few quid in the manufacturing process. Amazon Fire HD 8 Plus (2020) review: Should you spend more? All rights reserved. If you’re willing to spend a bit more than the Nokia, then the Samsung Galaxy A52 5G (£380) is also a great choice, as is the Google Pixel 4a (£349) and iPhone SE (£399). Neither Apple tablets come with 5G, with the 4G LTE versions costing £919 and £1,119 respectively, neither has storage expansion and neither includes a stylus in the box like the Tab S7 does. In the Geekbench 5 single- and multi-core CPU tests, the Nokia X20 scored 507 and 1,633, bringing it roughly in line with the speeds offered by the Pixel 4a, Redmi Note 9T and OnePlus Nord N10. With a choice of either the bronze-tinted Midnight Sun or Mystic Blue (pictured here), the Nokia X20’s reflective matte finish not only looks the part, but it feels nice in the hand, too. You have to pay £190 for this new keyboard, though, which is a bit disappointing. In DeX mode, you can use your tablet (almost) like a fully fledged laptop, with the ability to open multiple windows at once, drag and drop, and right-click for context-sensitive options. Walking might be the one human activity that has literally been done in every type of shoe. Still, this is a welcome move on Samsung’s part, since the Snapdragon 865 Plus is actually a slightly more powerful CPU. At the time of writing, though, this is only a 4G plan, with 5G connectivity coming at a later date. Until only recently, affordable 5G handsets were a bit of a rarity. The footage looked crisp and stable with the EIS setting engaged, but cheaper phones such as the Redmi Note 9T and Moto G 5G Plus can record at up to 4K resolution. The spacing between each letter is just right, too. However, the Nokia X20 is a bit of a brute. The Tab S7 Plus isn’t just a work machine, however, as it’s also one of the first mobile devices to support Microsoft’s Project xCloud game-streaming service. The Nokia X20 doesn’t stand alone when it comes to cut-price 5G offerings. With an average Delta E of 3.69 in my tests, the phone’s IPS panel was all over the place, with oversaturated dark blue and green tones, and dull-looking reds. When it comes to video, the Nokia X20 tops out at 1080p, with a choice of either 30fps or 60fps recording. Likewise, the 5MP ultrawide camera isn’t great, with the end result looking more like a watercolour painting – and not the type you’d like to hang on your wall, either. As for the included S Pen stylus, not much has changed when it comes to the design, but the writing latency has been improved thanks to the new high-refresh screen. The vast majority of smartphones were predominantly of the savings-draining flagship variety, phones costing £700 or more. The good news, however, is that the screen is bright enough in sunny conditions, with a measured peak luminance of 635cd/m² with the adaptive brightness setting engaged. It’s still bundled at no extra cost, too, which is nice when the 2nd-gen Apple Pencil costs an extra £119 to add to the already pricey iPad Pro. On the Tab S7 Plus you’ll be interacting with a 2,800 x 1,753 display with a pixel density of 274ppi (beating the 12.9in iPad Pro’s 265ppi). Speaking of which, Nokia has also partnered with tree-planting charity Ecologi. The Galaxy Tab S7 is clearly intended as a direct competitor to the recently refreshed iPad Pro (2020). I’ve been tapping away on it while writing this review, and each key has a decent amount of travel and good feedback. You’ll get an email letting you know where these trees are located and receive regular updates. The Best Crib Mattresses - 2021 . The cellular version costs extra, of course, but I’ll get to that discussion in a bit. Sadly, the Nokia X20’s comparatively pared-down offering just isn’t quite good enough to earn a recommendation. It’s a very comfortable keyboard to type on. It also has a 64MP primary camera, which sits alongside a 5MP ultrawide unit and a pair of 2MP depth and macro sensors. With the Tab S7 Plus, you’re able to toggle between 120Hz or 60Hz whenever you wish. Just like the iPad, it comes in two different screen sizes depending on how much you’re willing to spend. The iPad Pro isn’t the Tab S7 Plus’ sole rival, of course, but other tablets aren’t quite in the same league. It’s a bit of a mixed bag, but the good news is that the main camera is a delight, capturing detail-abundant images, especially in sunny environments. It charges via a USB-C port at the bottom, which sits between the phone’s speaker and 3.5mm audio jack, and the right-side-mounted power button doubles as a thumbprint reader. Take a look at this sunset picture I captured during a walk around London’s Poplar Dock Marina one evening. Sure, the UK’s fledgling 5G network might still be a bit lacking when it comes to coverage, but low-cost phones such as the new Nokia X20 could be an ideal starting point for consumers ready to take their first steps into the ever-expanding world of 5G. The selfie camera, which can also be used for unlocking with your face, is now situated on one of the tablet’s long edges. This review is for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Plus, which not only has a larger screen but also has a bigger 10,090mAh battery and is the only model with the potential for 5G connectivity, something the iPad Pro doesn’t offer. Should you buy a Nokia X20, you can register the phone's IMEI number and Ecologi will plant 20 trees in your name. As for looks, the design hasn’t changed much with the Tab S7 Plus since the Tab S6. The Nokia X20’s battery life is pretty darned good, too. The Galaxy Tab S7 Plus is gunning for the iPad Pro and it mostly succeeds. As a point of comparison, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro, which costs £50 less than the Nokia, has a 120Hz AMOLED display. If you do buy through Nokia, you’ll also receive a free 90-day 15GB data plan on Nokia’s new UK mobile network, HMD Mobile. Impressive stuff: I also liked the Nokia X20’s blurred background portrait images, with especially sharp outlines around my subject: Alas, the phone’s night mode is a bit on the weak side, with major loss of detail when the darkness starts to creep in, and a fair old sprinkling of visual noise. The latter can now be done wirelessly if you happen to have a TV or monitor that supports screen-mirroring. I liked that you can easily access an on-screen keyboard with a simple tap of the taskbar icon, and I was particularly impressed with how DeX managed incoming notifications – they neatly appear in the bottom-right corner of the screen, just like they would in Windows 10. Its Zeiss-branded rear quad-cameras are neatly arranged inside a circular housing, sitting next to the phone’s LED flash and above the centrally placed metallic Nokia logo. The still superb Moto G 5G Plus has dropped in price since launch, too, and now goes for £230. The latter is exclusive to Nokia’s own online store, and it was the model I was sent for review. The Galaxy Tab S7 is clearly intended as a direct competitor to the recently refreshed iPad Pro (2020).Just like … Both Tab S7 models also come with a microSD slot, which can take cards up to 1TB in capacity. Nokia’s second-ever 5G handset is its cheapest yet, coming in at £300 with 6GB of RAM and £320 with 8GB. In the end, whichever variant of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 you go for, you’re going to get an absolute belter of a tablet. Much like the hybrid version that can’t be plugged in, this PHEV employs a pair of electric motor–generators up front and one in the back that’s dedicated to driving the rear wheels, as well an 18.1-kWh lithium-ion battery. Android tablet makers have struggled for years to topple the unrelenting might of Apple’s ever-popular iPad lineup. Look past the Nokia X20’s high-end aesthetics and you’re left with a handset that can’t quite compete with its rivals in the value stakes. That’s pretty much par for the course in this day and age, and the Nokia’s 32MP front-facing camera isn’t anything out of the ordinary, either. The entry-level 11in iPad Pro starts at £769, while the 12.9in variant costs £969. And the price, which is considerably less than the equivalent Apple iPad Pro, makes for an exceedingly tempting purchase. I did have to adjust the onscreen exposure slider a few times in order to tweak the lighting but, generally speaking, the Nokia X20’s default shooting mode produced images I’d be happy to upload to social media with minimal post-capture editing. This makes sense when you consider that Samsung is trying to position the Tab S7 as a quasi-laptop for working on the go. Speaking of which, if you’re hoping to use the Tab S7 like a conventional laptop, then there's also an optional two-part keyboard cover available to buy. It has a large screen, skinny bezels, flat sides and feels surprisingly lightweight, despite its rather monstrous physical dimensions (285 x 185 x 5.7mm). It’s worth mentioning that the screen on the 2020 iPad Pro is also technically capable of reaching up to 120Hz but this is an automatic setting that changes depending on whether the app supports it or not. Overall performance feels quite snappy, but the Samsung Galaxy A52 5G edges it slightly, with the iPhone SE outperforming the lot by a wide margin. What you do get for free, however, is DeX mode, a desktop-style interface that’s designed to work with a keyboard and mouse and can even be displayed on an external monitor. The Nokia X20 isn’t too shabby in the gaming department, either, with the Adreno 619 GPU pumping out an average frame rate of 37fps in the onscreen Manhattan 3 GFXBench test. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Plus gives you two colour profiles to choose from, “Natural” and “Vivid”: both deliver delightfully rich, bold colours, no matter the viewing angle. If you aren’t in a 5G zone, then you might want to go for the 4G variant of the 11in Tab S7, which costs £719. You’re probably not going to get up to your full touch-typing speed on it straight away but you won’t be making loads of mistakes from the get-go either. It all adds a bit of weight, leading the Prime to tip the scales at 1,950 kg (4,300 lb). On the front of the phone sits a 6.67in, 20:9 aspect IPS display, with a resolution of 2,400 x 1,080. Tipping the scales at 220g and measuring a chunky 9.1mm thick, it might be a bit of a squeeze if you’ve got tight trouser pockets or a stylishly tiny handbag.
